I was told by a friend who breeds and does lots of research, that Short Hairs was in the line in back of my GCH boy. I'd like to screen him for the short hair gene. Any excellent screening companies you'd all recommend? Please let me know. Thanks, Paula
Vetgen does the test. There is another company too, but I can't remember the name. I'm sure Tom King would know if you want to PM him. (In case he doesn't see this)
Pam says, DDC is the other company. The test is for "furnishings". RSP02 insertion. 2 copies means the individual does not carry for it. If Positive/negative +/- means carrier, and -/- means the individual is a "shorthair", as it's called in Havanese.
If a carrier is bred to a +/+, no puppies will be shorthair, but the chance of any puppy being a carrier is 50%.
DDC gives results as _/_ with positive or negatives in the blanks.
Vetgen calls it coat furnishings too. They give the results in words.
They call it "sleek" or "furnishings". Sleek means shorthair. FF means not carrying shorthair. Ff equals carrier. ff means individual is shorthair.
