Panda and I had our first show experience together today. She showed once with our handler a few weeks ago, but after we had already entered the shows this weekend, the handler had a family thing come up, and couldn't show her. I've never shown in conformation, though, except for the single match we did, where she was the only puppy in her class. She ended up with Best of Winners, beating a special and her first two points!!! It had to be because she's such a nice little dog, because from a handling perspective, it was the blind leading the blind!
Thanks! No, no video this time. All my friends were busy showing too. (and I don't have a mom to go and video for me! )
She was even better today, but today's judge obviously went for s different type... smaller, shorter moving, fuzzier coats. That type (all bred and shown by the same couple) beat ALL the dogs who won anything yesterday, including the dog who was BOB yesterday.
Still, it was good for us to get in the ring again. I was less nervous, and she was really up and happy, wagging her tail and smiling the whole time... and self-stacking beautifully!
What was the Judge's name? That's one worth remembering. I wasn't trying to be funny. Most Judges will put up the Handler in the Havanese ring these days. It's a lot different than it used to be before the economy crash.
Her name is Jill Hocking, and she's from Australia... Which could be part of it. Since she's not part of the US show scene, she's probably less worried about who's who.
But she was very consistent in her choices, preferring "our" kind of dog over the tiny, fuzzy, short strided ones.
Agreeing with Tom. When you find a good one that doesn't put up faces, write down the name and try to show to them whenever you can. Our first show, he put a young owner-handler's dog up as winners over -3- shown by pros. Nino showed like a monster, but I have his name tucked away for the next time he's in town.
I am printing out the InfoDog results from each show, which shows who the judge was, who she showed against and results. I'm adding any personal impressions by hand. Then I'm keeping them, with her ribbons, in plastic sleeves in a notebook for future reference. (This is similar to what I do for Kodi in Obedience... Although Obedience judging is much more objective, there are still some judges I won't show under)
Unfortunately, the chances to show under THIS judge will probably be pretty limited... She was visiting from Australia.
In the summer, my hair sort of has a mind of its own. It's rarely the same two days in a row! It's just luck that it happened to look halfway decent in this picture!
WhaHOOOO team Panda! That is fantastic! Love the win pic....you both look wonderful!
Exciting to have 2 pts at her age already you have a lot of fun ahead.
You'll appreciate this, Dee Dee... Both Panda and Elizabeth looked great in the photo... I had my eyes closed. So I PS'd them in from another photo! ound:
I think having her hair down, with no pony, changes her looks a lot too. It's been a real challenge learning to get her hair to stay back out of her eyes, at least long enough for the class!
Karen, if you're ever at a show at the Big E, let me know! I'd love to see Panda in action.
