Another Show

Today was a big "womp womp" for us. It's the first time Nino didn't win his class. It definitely wasn't our day. We started the morning late, then when we got to the show, I realized I had left the cash I withdrew at home. It was 30 minutes to ring time (we like to get there an hour ahead to get him calm), and the people taking money for parking wouldn't budge. I even offered them my driver's license until my dad was able to pay for me. Nope, I had to take about 10 minutes to get cash at an ATM. Poor Nino ended up pooping in his crate on the way to the ring and stepped in it, so he went in with one back paw soaking wet.

He did so well in the ring I'm actually surprised he didn't take the class over his brother, who was very naughty. Our breeder thinks it was because his tail still needs to tighten up a bit. The judge's selections were all a bit odd, which is to be expected in a breed with so much variety, I guess. Oh well, que sera sera. That's a dog show for ya. Looking forward to tomorrow!

Another goose egg today. He showed incredibly well, we just weren't what the judge was looking for. I am so proud of how he performed, though, and that's what matters. Looking at him, I have a feeling he is the kind that will get higher placements the older he gets. For now, his coat just doesn't have the volume it could. Oh well, I thought he looked wonderful, and so did those watching on.

Not every judge likes the same style of dog. Some are "movement judges", some care more about outline or type, where others are all about tiny dogs with poofy coats... And then there are those who reward the other end of the leash. ;)

Better luck next time! :)

Definitely seen that come into play a lot already. You never quite know what to offer them. In most of our shows, dogs with sprayed back hair have been put up, but Nino's most successful day was one I didn't even attempt to take his mop. Today's was certainly a "tiny and poofy type"...decidedly NOT Nino.

We have decided that, once he is out of the puppy classes, we are going to give him a break and let his coat grow in. While profuse, it doesn't have the volume so many judges want in a dog that's still growing coat. He could also gain a pound or two :)
