Raffy and I had to have several conversations about him wearing a top knot so I could see his eyes and he could see me. In the end, he relented and for the last couple days, I've successfully gotten the hair out of his eyes! He still has a few shorter wispies around the eyes that I had to use a touch of gel on, however.
Since I was taking pictures of his new do anyhow, I thought I'd also try to capture how silvering is affecting his coat. In the first picture, the silver tail and very visible silver strands are featured, but because of the lighting, he looks very black otherwise. He's more of a charcoal color than a true black, though. My other dog is a true black and Raffy is clearly not when they stand side by side.
In the second picture, I ruffled his hair so his undercoat would be more visible, and it is an even lighter charcoal/grey, which has me curious about what is going to happen when he blows coat in the next few months.
The last picture was taken in "sunlight" such as it is on a grey day in Washington. And I thought it was cute.
I am not sure how silver Raffy will get. I noticed the first signs when he was about 16 weeks old, which is later than some pups whose silvering is obvious very very early. I'm thoroughly fascinated by the color changing and wonder what color my grown up Raffy will be!
Nickie likes hair over his eyes and top knots last a very short time. I'm not good at them, so someone else did this one and it's falling forwards now. Nickie is three and has some white hairs in his black. Is this silvering? I use the little terry ones on the rare occasions that I do a top knot, but they come out immediately and disappear. They probably end up inside the overgrown sheltie in this photo.
OH, I like his top knot. Nice to see someone with almost the same name. My Vet said she had another Raffi come in just before I got my baby. Our boys must be part of a trend!
I can't get over how much Raffi looks like Sophie! I wish she had a little more white like he does he's beautiful. So is Nickie!
I tried the top knot with Sophie but she's such a tom boy it was forever being pulled out on something and she didn't seem to like it. I felt so bad with the hair over her eyes so I had her bangs trimmed, the first time I trimmed her bangs she stared at everything! She also was able to chase her tennis ball straight away rather than take off in another direction and wait to hear it hit the ground to know which way it went. I love being able to see their eyes too.
Well, I had almost started to believe that Pixel might not silver (except for that streak in her tail, and I just found silver streaks on both ears! So she IS silvering, it's just slow. Fun to watch!
Wow Pixel!! Do you think she will silver out completely? Sophie has had pretty big silver patches on back legs, behind ears and flanks/behind elbows but it hasn't changed in a long while
I doubt it... The Kings have a bitch (who I ADORE) who looked black as a puppy, then looked like she was going to be Havana Brown, then silvered, then darkened, and now has a sprinkling of silver through her coat. From a distance, she looks like a black dog, up close, you can see all the silver mixed through her coat.
When I first looked at the litter Pam warned me that she might silver... One sister is VERY silver... Had a strong mask at 6 weeks. I am quite sure that Pixel won't be a litght silver, but I am now thinking (again! ) that she may end up with a sprinkle of silver through her coat.
BTW, here's Nike's page on the King's web site. You can see how her color has changed... Though it's not as obvious in photos as it is when you see her in person:
I remember seeing Nike from when you posted before and loved seeing her again she really is a gorgeous dog! I love her Havanah Brown stage in particular. Interesting she silvered and then darkened again I figured once they started to silver they would just keep getting lighter. I remember seeing Pixels sister also she was really showing signs of silver even at that young age! I'll bet you are right about Pixel having a sprinkle of silver. I see a few in Sophie's tail now too.
