Back in 2004 when we got our first Havanese, Violet, we didn't know about health testing, or much about Havanese. Violet was awesome and soon, 1 year later we got Spencer. Then 6 months later we got Frederick. We had a happy band of three Havanese. Sadly, they all had medical problems and we lost Violet when she was 9 years old, Frederick when he was 10 and Spencer when he was almost 11.
We learned a lot with our three fur babies and knew we would get another Havanese. Well, it didn't take long and we got Jade who has a very laid back awesome personality. We thought we would just have one this time but, then we came across Kona, well, we couldn't say no! So we have two!
With Kona having severe medical issues he may not be with us for a long time, we thought about getting another boy to add to the family. Again, things just fall into our laps:smile2:! The breeder we got Jade from had a puppy come available, and sent us a video.....how do you turn down all that Havanese cuteness???
Sunday we will be picking up Harley, so here we are back to having 3 Havanese!! Honest, they just followed us home:grin2:
So we have Jade 7 months, Kona 5 months and Harley 9 weeks!
I just hate to read this because each month I feel my resolve to have just one melting away bit by bit! We are in residence in Mexico right now. One of our neighbors here (from Boulder, CO) has a Chocolate Hav named CoCo. She is 9 months younger than Ricky but they are the same size and same personality. The two are inseparable and we let them play to exhaustion together every afternoon on the big lawn in front of our place. We would take CoCo home with us permanently in a heartbeat but her Momi and Popi love her as much as we love Ricky. I'm going to try and take a video of them playing together before we leave in a couple of weeks.
Ricky's Popi
It is really hard not to get more Havanese!
But, I am sure that Ricky would love a brother or sister.
When the time is right you'll be showing us your new baby!:smile2:
I was video chatting with my husband last night (he's in the US right now) and mentioned that I might want another pup at some point and he just looked at me and asked 'why would you want a second one'. Since he and Perry are currently at odds, I understand where he's coming from, but maybe once they 'make up' we can discuss it again .
I am so tempted to get another doggie! Then I think that now the vet bills will be doubled, the food is doubled, the flea/tick medication is doubled, the grooming is doubled. Sometimes I feel I don't give Willow all the attention she deserves or demands and then I think about trying to do it for two (or more)! Sometimes I think maybe adopting a rescue but not a havanese. Just a small dog for a companion to Willow and one that doesn't need so much grooming. Oh, I don't know. Then I see all the puppy pictures posted! Oh my, the temptation!
I always planned on a second hav, but intended to wait until Raffy was closer to 2 years old. We only made it to 1 1/2. However, with the cockapoo, that makes 3 dogs, which I feel like is my limit.
Congrats April, you are such a good Hav mum that carma gotcha. Can't wait to see pics of Harley, have a great time with your three muskateers. I am sure you will have lots to post about in the next while.
I used to pat myself on the back that I was so sensible, and stuck to my plan of waiting until Kodi was well-along in his competition training before adding a second one. I thought I planned it perfectly. Kodi had topped out in Rally, was competing at Open level in Obedience, and ws training Utility. Perfect!
Then. I. fell. for. Panda. ound:
Still, I wouldn't change a thing. We're DONE, though, I MEAN it!!! No more dogs, at least until Kodi is TOTALLY retired!!!
I am with you, Karen! Having had three before we know that is the most we can handle. Tomorrow is the big day! I hope all goes well when Harley comes home!
Havanese are such wonderful dogs it is hard to not have a houseful!
Notice my avatar. Pam almost always has more in her chair than I do in mine.
It's kind of hard to see in the avatar, but I couldn't figure out how to copy it here, so here's a link to it. Meg, the Black girl in the middle is 17 now, and still here. http://starbornhavanese.com/images/lapdogs.jpg
I think he's nuts! But you're right, neither of my others do it!
