autoimmune disease?

My henry is very ill. His platelets and white blood cells are extremely low. He's been on high doses of steroids for 10 days but the numbers have not improved. I'm not getting much guidance from the vet. She is saying we need to get a bone marrow biopsy to see what is causing the numbers to be so low. It would be painful and intrusive and it seems that what we could discover is that he has cancer. We are unsure what to do. Do any of you have experience with this and want to offer an opinion? Id be so grateful for some intelligence. Thank you!

Sending healing prayers for your Henry. I can't offer any advice other than to get a second opinion from another vet, possibly a specialist. Maybe that would give you more clarity as to how you want to proceed. Trust your gut and do what you think is best for your boy. Good luck.

I am so sad to read this. I understand your hesitation to do a bone marrow biopsy.

Do you have another vet with a good reputation that you could go to for a second opinion? Even if you have to drive for it?

I am so sorry to hear this about your darling little boy. It's so not fair all these illnesses they get. I pray too you can find a specialist or something and get to the bottom of this without having to put him through horrible tests. Please report back on him.

I could be speaking out of turn here, but I was trying to find a common denominator between the low platelet count and the low white blood cell count and the only thing I found was ticks. I just wondered if there is a possibility Henry had ticks. I am sure your vet checked that, but I thought I should let you know just in case it wasn't considered. Sorry if I am speaking out of turn, but better to let you know just in case it is a possibility.
