Leo the Houdini dog

We place Leo in an Isis xpen when we are at work. This pen comes with a door that has 2 latches that can be screwed tight to prevent a dog from escaping. When my son came home from school, he found Leo had escaped and was waiting in the kitchen for him. I always close all doors in my house just in case he does escape. What kind of latch/lock can I use to prevent him from opening his pen door again? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What a surprise. Luckily he didn't get into trouble.
I have always gated my kitchen just in case of escapes- so far no attempts to climb out over here.

I use carabiners to attach the heavy duty expen panels to a richel crate. They are super handy.
Maybe that would work to secure the door on your pen if you get one big enough to go around. At least provide an extra layer of protection.
The Iris pens have a lot of horizontal bars to make climbing easy so if Leo is determined enough he may try to climb over the wall if the door won't open again!
Little sneaky Houdini you got there!

Thanks. I think my son has a carabiner. I never knew what the name of that thing was! These little dogs can be so determined.

Nope--we have a camera on him when we are at work. He stands up and uses his front paws furiously on the top latch and then crouches down to undue the bottom latch! He has done this 3 times and gets better each time. I'll have to go a find a clip that is long enough to cover the thick plastic of the Iris xpen.

I agree - you've got to figure out how to post it!

This link will take you to DropBox, a free website where you can store videos. I use it to share links to my Shama videos.

You can also just go to dropbox.com, but if you join via this link, I'll get more storage space as credit for my referral . . .

Looking forward to seeing the show!

Our Leo can open a Midwest wire crate by lifting the latch with his nose and pushing it back then using his paws to open the door. The little dogs are super smart!
