Big time scare

pulled onto my street coming home from work. As I'm nearing my house I see what looks like a firetruck out front and near my house. As I get closer , yes it's a firetruck. and yes it's right in front of my house. The driver is still in the truck and has to back up so I can pull in my driveway. I see the front door open. Heart is beating 200 times a minute, and my first thoughts is Gwen having a heart attack, as she does have issues with it. Pile out of the truck and there in the front hallway are three firefighters and GWEN standing there talking .As she sees me I am almost in tears. Turns out the hardwired smoke detectors all went off and she called the fire dept. and told them there wasn't a fire and that it wasn't an emergency. They dispatched the truck anyway which they probably shouldn't have and it took them fifteen minutes to figure out the problem. One of the detectors was faulty or dusty ,who knows and the system is such that if one goes off , they all go off , JOY. They had to find the right breaker (which is labelled bathroon /hallway) lol , so they could test each detector individually to see what was the problem. Needless to say they found the culprit, . So I guess after being here for 18 years its time to replace all of them. Yes hardwired ones too . I sort of remember reading this years ago but you know , I never replaced them,. Geeze I really didn' t need this. She didn't have a heart attack ,but I nearly did . Lesson learned you dumb bugger Dave. Molly wasn't happy either . Gwen is still shaken. Five detectors going off for twenty plus minutes would do it to me too.

We had the same problem, all hardwired, all connected. (my understanding is that a bad battery will not cause them all to go off, only a real trigger) Went off all the time, (all of them) finally realized that the cold air return filter near one of the alarms needed to be changed. Everytime the heat started up the dust would blow back from it and cause the alarm to go off.

A bit of research on Google found that one for me, amazing...

Glad you and family are all ok, I probably would have needed a xanax in addition to that drink.

My heart would have stopped if I drove home and seen Firetrucks...scary. Happy to hear all is well and hopefully you will recover soon. My alarms were updated by my alarm company last year to include gas, they have a battery backup, and their own breaker, the old ones did not have their own breaker, but the battery backup had a clock so they tweet until you replace them once a year even when the battery is still fine (pain in the butt).

yeah Robbie I guess the backup battery is a good idea, but a pain when they need replacing. I am getting all new hardwired ones without a battery backup if I can get it. We rarely have power outages.

Nightmares

I have had my havanese dog Jeremy for about 4 months. About 3-4 times a week Jeremy sits up in bed in the middle of the night and screams. When I say scream I mean scream. He isn't parking. Jeremy sits up and stares at the wall and screams. I am trying to wake him up by gently shaking him. Jeremy seems to be in a trance. After about 20 seconds of screaming he stops. Jeremy seems very happy after the trance or nightmare. Jeremy then just falls back to sleep. The vet says the he isn't used to us yet but it has been 4 months. We think that the owner before us left him in cages all day. Jeremy hates cages. We have only put him in a cage during the first week.

If anyone knows what is going on with Jeremy please post a reply.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. You're most likely right, he is dreaming. From what research I've read, dogs dreams manifest much the same way as human. Totally natural. I wouldn't touch him when he does this though. Not that you would be reinforcing fear, because that doesn't happen. Just to avoid any possible bad reaction. The old saying ... let sleeping dogs lie, is true. Some dogs find a sudden hand on them threatening when they are resting or just awake. Give him time, . Just a note, not that it bothers me, but when posting ,try to stick to the topic of the thread or start a new thread. NO problem, hope I was of some help. Don't be shy, if you have questions , now is the time to ask, not after they become worse. Got any pictures of your guy?
