Hello all!

Well, we are less than two weeks away from welcoming our precious little Ivy into our family, and we could not be more excited! :grin2: I have continued to busy myself with puppy-proofing the house, and shopping for those things that she will need once she is finally home. I believe that I have pretty-much everything at this point, though I have yet to select her beds, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. :smile2: I did however, purchase one of the self-warming crate pads.

For those of you who drove to pick up your fur-sweeties, I'd be interested in knowing how you prepared for the ride? For example, what did you choose to transport him/her in? A crate? A portable per carrier? A pet car seat? Or did you take someone else along to hold your pup during the ride home? Did you allow your pup access to water during the ride? (I'm concerned about possible car sickness if I do) Did they ride in the front seat, or the back seat, etc.?

The drive back home from our breeder should only be an hour or so, but I will be going alone, so having someone there to hold Ivy is not an option for me.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have to offer. :)

I drove to pick up both Leo and Rex. With Leo the drive was several hours so my daughter went with me. Leo rode back on our laps (unsafe I know). I went by myself to pick up Rex so he rode back in a carrier on the front passenger seat. I could put my fingers through for him to nuzzle. Leo didn't get carsick and never has. Rexy will sometimes get carsick. He got a bit drooly on that first ride home but didn't throw up. Take paper towels, trash bags, puppy wipes, puppy chew like a bully stick to distract and give puppy something to do especially if you are by yourself. On an hours drive you probably won't need to offer water until you get home. This may reduce the possibility of carsickness.

I think if you are doing this alone a pet carrier is probably your best option. Hopefully the puppy will just curl up and go to sleep. Molly did get car sick on our way home. We had a 30 minute drive. You can line the carrier with a pee pad. Just bring extra pads, blankets, paper towels and wipes in case you have to stop and do a quick clean up before you make it home.

Ask your breeder not to feed Ivy before you pick her up. When I picked up Emmie she got sick on the 40 min drive to the airport and again on the first flight. Since we knew this might happen she wasn't fed breakfast and her crate was lined with a pee pad and I also brought paper towels and baby wipes so cleanup was a breeze. Good luck! :)
