New puppy marking question

How time flies! The pups are 7 weeks old today. Our breeder brings in experts and other breeders for temperament and conformation testing at 8 weeks, and places them based on that, so we should know which pup we are taking home within the week! There will also be a visit happening around that time, so expect pictures!

I do have a question. As we plan on showing the new pup, he will remain intact. Mario quit marking as soon as he was neutered, but how can we prevent an intact male from marking indoors? I have also read that neutered males have been known to mark if an intact male is brought into the home. Mario is not at all territorial, so I'm hoping this isn't the case with him, but I'd love some pointers just in case.

Thanks!

Treat your expectations of marking the same as you would any inappropriate peeing in the house or other indoor space. Supervise, praise and treat for appropriate elimination and don't excuse bad house manners with the desire to leave a calling card. I have 3 boys in the house. Leo wasn't neutered until he was 18 months old and though he would mark outside in a heartbeat he only tried it inside once. He received a strong verbal correction followed by a quit trip outside and praise for marking the tree instead. This happened when we were temporarily fostering another intact male. You have to set expectations and supervise EXTREMELY closely until you know your dog can be trusted. Even now if we go into a different home (vacation rental for instead) I stay right on the boys until I am sure they understand that house manners apply in the new setting just like at home.
