After struggling with Skipper shredding disposable pee pads, I have switched to reusable washable pads with fantastic success. No more battles!
Bought 2 EZwhelp and 2 Simpe Solution pads so I can rotate them. They both are very absorbent and Skipper doesn't leave pee paw prints anymore. I switch them every opulent of days and soak the soiled ones in vinegar and water before throwing them in the washer...I then just put them outside to dry. Only problem is I'm stuck with 200 pee pads that I bought on sale...
Anyway, thought my experience might be helpful to someone in the forum
The only problem is, every single person I know who has used washable pee pads has then had a long term (often permanent) problem mistaking scatter rugs around the house or towels left on the floor as appropriate pee spots. I wouldn't use them.
My personal experience: Emmie's breeder used disposable per pads but sent me home with washsble ones. Unfortunately, she couldn't differentiate between the pads and the bath mat so I stopped using them; I pulled up all mats and area rugs in my place, in order to break her of a new habit. I just couldn't risk her doing that at home or at family & friends' house. My perseverance paid off and I can trust her around carpet, et al now wherever we are.
My pads our in an area in our outdoor deck so he clearly knows to go outdoors and then to the pad area...I have not yet seen any generalization to indoor throw rugs but at his age, we still watch him like a hawk so he doesn't get many opportunities to make a mistake yet...I'll keep you posted but so far using them outdoors is great. Our lawn area is too far for him to go there.
I also bought washable pads - it seemed like a much greener solution to me. I ended up not using them for their intended function, but do use them for other things, like laying them over the car seats. I wanted to mention that I found a vendor in Wisconsin that employs disabled folks to repurpose the pads out of used undersheets (pads used in nursing homes and hospitals). So a 'green' solution in more ways than one, if they work for you.
