We are looking at a havanese that is absolutely adorable. However, he has a cowlick on his nose. Is this anything we should be concerned about? Is it a health issue or just a grooming issue?
The hair on Maggie's muzzle looks like fireworks. :smile2: It goes go straight up in all directions. I assume as she gets older it will lie down and fall nicely to the sides. I saw both her parents and they have beautiful well groomed faces with so I'm sure its just a puppy thing.
The only thing that bothers me is that his nose looks red. If there is ANY possibility that the skin is inflamed (causing the hair to stand up) I'd want him seen by my vet before committing to him.
Mario's littermate had a very conspicuous cowlick on top of her head when she was young, and she finished her championship pretty quickly and ended up becoming a well-producing bitch. Shouldn't have any effect on your dog, healthwise or grooming wise, especially once the coat changes from puppy to adult.
EDIT: I do see what Karen is talking about and find myself agreeing. When in doubt, ask the breeder and check with a vet.
Thank you. We visited with the puppy again today and it is most definitely hair only. It really does at times look like a reddish bump but the breeder and I looked at it careful and once it is touched it is clearly hair. The hair is reddish brown at the root so that is why it has the look of something different. He is unique. Thanks for the help and comments.
The rest of Scrappy's face. LOL - it is hard to catch him for pictures at this point. Hoping to have some better ones once he comes home. He is very interested in playing with his brothers.
