Oreo (chocolate & white) has been with us 4 days and will be 12 weeks old tomorrow. He is so sweet and loving, and is sleeping through the night! We were also big dog owners in the past, and this is my first foray into a small indoor dog. I can tell it is going to be quite a bit different! Right now, I can't get anything done because I am either watching him every minute to see if he needs to go outside, or I am outside with him!
Is there a guide anywhere that says what he should be doing at each age, like there is with babies? I really don't know what is realistic to expect from him. I haven't tried him with the leash because he really just likes to lie down outside. I don't want to put the leash on him and drag him behind me! Thanks for any "new mom" advice!

Oh he is adorable they can be exhausting at first that's why God made them so cute! :)
The old motto, sleep when the baby sleeps, I have modified with a puppy baby to work when the baby sleeps. :D
This too shall pass I loved the puppy stages and Sophie is about a year and a half now and miss the younger puppy stuff she did. So enjoy as much of it as you can and hang in there with the rest!

Spoke Too Soon!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I knew I was jinxing myself when I said that Oreo was sleeping through the night. Last night was a disaster. My husband was out of town, and I went out with some friends for dinner. We got off schedule of our normal nightly routine, and he would not settle down and go to sleep. He cried from 11:00 til 2:00 a.m., at which time I took him outside again, and then settled him down by laying down beside his crate with my hand where he could lick it and know I was there. He was up again at 5:45! Ugh! I hope that didn't set a precedent, and that if we go back to our normal schedule tonight, he will go to sleep and sleep 8 hours as he had done on the 4 previous nights. My husband was less than enthusiastic about our getting a puppy, so if his sleep is impacted Oreo and I both might get kicked out! :laugh2:
On a positive note, we had our first vet visit yesterday afternoon, and all checked out great. He weighs 4.08 lbs. Everyone in the office wanted to dog nap him!

Thanks!

It is just like having a new baby...the good and the bad! He did go to sleep in his crate without a problem, he just woke up at 3 a.m.. Since I really didn't think he needed to go out, I just went and laid down by his crate where he could lick my hand, and he quieted down and went back to sleep in a few minutes. Good luck with your fur baby!
