Hello all! So excited there is a forum dedicated to all things havanese! I am trying to narrow down my choices. I am a writer who works part time from home so I have all day every day to bond with my future puppy. I know finding a new furry family member is worth traveling for, but it seems a few in my region are well liked. Can anyone share an experience perhaps? Health is my most important concern, followed by temperment and social comfort. I think they are all beauties, so I don't have a color preference. I was hoping maybe I can get a bit of advice on my current list-
-Jubolee
-woodland
-starborn
- accent
-quickstep
-homegrown
Thank you all in advance!:smile2:

Starborn - Excellent (personal experience... obviously I love them, or I wouldn't have gone back "for seconds" ;))

Quickstep - Excellent (personal experience) - These are a different "style" of Havanese than the Starborn dogs... HUGE coats. Pam is a good friend, I've been in her home, seen how she raises her puppies and know several of her puppy buyers. Great people, well raised, nice dogs.

Homegrown - I don't know Penny well, but she has a good reputation among other breeders in our area. I've met a few of her pet owners and the dogs seem sweet.

Woodland - No personal experience, but several forum people have purchased dogs from them (some repeats) and I haven't heard anything bad.

Accent - Never heard of them, but their website looks good... worth pursuing.

Jubolee - Guarded. I don't know her personally, but I don't like that she doesn't let people meet the parents and see where/how the puppies are being raised. That said, she sells a LOT of pet puppies in the N.E. area, and people seem happy with them. I don't know whether she health tests and for what, so you'd have to ask those questions.

I don't have any personal experience with them, but they do all the proper testing, show their dogs, and they also have dogs competing in performance sports, which I personally think is just as important!

Hello Harps and Puppies! Welcome to the forum, plenty of great info on this site. Everyone is very helpful! We have a Woodlands dog, and can't say enough about them. Here's something I posted recently, so I'm reposting it for you....please note that post this is from the end of October when she had a few litters. At this point, they have all been spoken for. She usually has a few litters in the spring. I will see if I have any other woodlands posts, but in the meantime, here's a short post for you to read....

If you're looking for a breeder in New Jersey, may I suggest Woodland Havanese located outside of Philly. We adopted Gracie from her 5 years ago, and I know she does all of the required health testing, and also shows her dogs. If we were ever going to get another dog, I would go back to Diane in a heartbeat!! I just checked her website, and she's had a couple of litters recently, but I believe they are all spoken for right now. At least you can do some research on her for the future if you are interested.

Good luck in you search for a good breeder!

Connie

Here's another post....

Our Gracie is from woodlands Havanese, and I would not hesitate to get another one from Diane. I know she health tests all of her dogs, including BAER, and she is always available to answer any questions you may have. I see that she has a new letter that's about 2 weeks old. If you contact her, you can let her know that I recommended her. We adopted Gracie from her Mentalist litter 5 years ago. (Would love to adopt another dog from her -- one day, maybe). Good luck with whomever you choose!

I know this is an old post and KRandall - your posts have been so helpful in our search - so thank you! Just wanted to offer personal experience on Jubolee which you listed as "guarded" for a breeder recommendation. We're picking up our first pup from her soon. She showed us the house and where all the dogs reside. We met the parents and were shown the health testing. We were literally sprayed down before we could enter the house and visit the puppies. This was before we sat down and she questioned us about why we wanted a Havanese. So far, we've been very impressed with her and this after a lot of research and checking referrals. Appreciated Rita Nelsons story as well in making our decision.

Good to hear! As I said in my other post, I DO know several people who have dogs from her, and they seem happy with them. One is a wonderful obedience, rally and agility dog.
