Iris, I have not viewed this page in awhile, Yogi was six months, he was a rescue we thought he was older. Yes neutering early prevents a lot of male problems. Males are not as effected by early neutering. I have a breeder friend who breeds a tiny dog and if it is not going to a show home, it stays with her until 12 to 14 weeks and she has them spayed/neutered before they go home. I think that is too young but her point is enforcing a breeding agreement can be expensive and so many people wait too long and have an opps litter and her breed often has difficult births. Our boys have it easier then the girls, the spay is a major opp. in girls early spay helps prevent breast cancer and other hormone related problems. Talk to your Vet and make a decision you are happy with. The one thing it did effect with Yogi is his growth plates took a bit longer to close, he is healthy, we waited a bit longer to let him jump.
