    Marj,
Jon and I are both new members of the PR committee which is responsible for the HCA Horizons. This online publication reaches out to readers that are new to the Havanese world. I wondered if it would be OK to put the Link for the Horizon on Havavese Forum? Also, part of the issue deals with Roundtable questions & Answers. Could I use a question from havavanese talk to discuss? There are so many great questions that would b helpful to Havanese owners and to the dog owners in gereral. The issue is seasonal. we will be working on the winter issue soon!
I will really appreciate your input.
    Thanks So Much,
    Pam Sowa

    Hi Nancy,

I don't see a problem moistening kibble as it will swell up once eaten and adding a bit of water to it first can bring out the flavors and some dogs enjoy that. Sometimes, it's the only thing that will make a dog eat it. lol Either way, it's going to swell in the tummy and it could be that that is a problem for your 8 yr. old. She may not handle too much swelling well.
If she's o.k. on Nat'l. Balance duck then stick with that. Is it a grain-free version? If so, even better. If not, and she's good with it for months at a time, then you can always switch to their no-grain version after that time to see if she take that well.

A good quality canned food is actually even better than kibble - but more pricey - as it doesn't cause bloating and is fresh and nutritionally better. You could try a bit of canned with some kibble for a change if you like.

Evo is a higher protein food and may cause the stool to be darker and harder. Some dogs poop more often on a grain-free, high prot. food, others dont' react in any way except to have more energy and better coat. It really depends on the dog, but if you're 2 yr. old is healthy, has a good coat and no kidney issues, then Evo and Innova are great foods to give her.

Hope that helps, but let me know if you have any other questions, Nancy! I'm no expert by any means, but I do get a lot of feedback from customers at the store I'm at and with my own two, I learn a lot. Seems to me there is always something to learn about nutrition. My own AND my dogs'! lol

You have been so helpful in the past that I wanted to ask you a question about food. I started a thread called Evo Question and was told that kibbles should be moistened to prevent health problems. Someone else wrote that they shouldn't be moistened because other health problems could arise. I've been adding a little water and our 8 year old is looking very uncomfortable. She looks bloated. She loves the moist food and gobbles it down but normally she leaves much of her 3/4 cup of food. I think she has a stomach ache. I've been holding her and rubbing her back and she's burped a couple of times and looks better.

What do you think? Should I add moisture to the food? The 8 year old has been getting Natural Balance (duck) for about a month because she had loose stools with Evo. Her stools have been great on this Natural Balance.

Our almost-2 year old gets Innova and Evo. The thing I noticed on that is that her stools are very hard and dry.

I am just running out of ideas of what to do. Thanks for any help.

Hi, been away for a while and was wondering if anything has happened in Tritia's Cooper missing. I noticed she is posting but could find nothing on him recently.

    Thanks, Sandi

    Hi,
I can't belive you were so kind to answer my questions about grooming and I just realized that I had messages today! Talk about slow.

Your answers were really helpful and I have one more questions - what do you do about the hair that grows from the inside corners of the eyes. When I had her trimmes months ago this hair was cut extremely short. I have been letting in grow in hoping it would grow into her muzzle but it just seems to grow and cover her eyes. Does it just make sense to keep cutting it so it is not a problem.

I hope that all is well at your home and life has gotten back to normal.

    Thanks

    Hi,

My name is Susan. I am a new member and a relatively new Hav mom
(1/20/08). My pup's name is Gracie, she is 8 1/2 months old and she is sweetheart!

I came upon an old post of yours where you said that you groomed your Hav yourself. I am really interested in knowing how you learned or if you think this is something anyone can do - if you're handy in general? Please respond with you ideas and opinions.

    Thanks,

    Susan
