I'm not sure if you had your questions answered, but I just ran across them....so here goes.
The barking or lack there of,I think is common. Sometimes you get a quiet one, sometimes there are "barky" ones. Be thankful you have a quiet one! Quincy does bark, but not excessively. When he was a pup he never barked at all,but now he has found his voice.
The coat change--I'm not sure what to tell you about that. I know that there is a change from puppy coat to adult coat, but going from straight to curly I haven't heard of myself. Usually the coat becomes easier to care for with less matting after the blow coat changes. We went through that twice. Quincy is now 3. Quincy's coat is typical at least from the standards I have read, where his hair is straight with a little curl or kind of zig zag at the end. It varies from silky to cottony. Generally speaking his white is silkier then his black except for his head.He has a varied coat that is silkier in the front and cottony on his rear end/back.
Hope things gives you some insight on at least my boy. I think you picked the right breed. Havanese vary alot, but they are all fabulous!:thumb:
