My husband and I like to travel alot. Could I please have some ideas about using a soft-sided pen or a plastic pen? We would need something that could be folded up and stored in the back of our crossover. Has anyone used the nylon type pens?

Thanks

Cey never liked his nylon airline carry-on crate. It's a bit too small for him I think (even though it's supposed to be up to 20 lbs or something). On the other hand, he loves loves loves his metal wire pet crate, which he's had since I brought him home. I just put a fleece blanket on the bottom and a small cover draped over the top and keep the door open, and he crawls right in if he is tired and I am not in my bed to snuggle with :). I use it to contain him on the few occasions that I need him contained and he doesn't mind a bit. In fact, he is so possessive of his crate that he sort of freaks out if anybody messes with it, including packing it up for taking a trip haha.

It's not very big, and it folds up if necessary. It wouldn't work for airplane travel of course but I take it whenever we sleep over at somebody else's house and it fits great in my car even without being folded :).

Oh, and it comes with a divider so that the inside size can be adjusted when your dog is a puppy. Best dog thing I have ever bought!

This is the crate I have: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4056280. I have the xtra-small one and it is plenty big enough for Cey to sleep in, even fully grown (he weighs just short of 12 lbs I believe - the crate is 22x13x16 inches. Height-wise, he can just stand up in it). Here's some pics, with the cover pulled back :).

By "pen", do you mean expen? I have two soft sided nylon expens and a hard sided expen. The hard sided was just taken down about a month ago because Isabella has reached an age where she can be trusted when I'm not home. However, its going back up when we pick up our 12 week old puppy on Friday. One of the soft sided pens was shipped to my daighter's house because we frequently travel there and it's easier than flying with it each time. Have another soft sided travel pen that I keep when traveling everywhere else.

If you're talking about crates, Isabella uses a soft sided collapsible crate to sleep in. I frequently fly with her in the Petego JetSet Bag.
