I'm a new Hav owner. My Hav is white. I noticed that most of the white ones have a little tan on the ears. Is this some sort of trait with the breed? Does a pure white Hav exist. Just weird that ever white Hav pic I see has tan ears.

Hi and welcome to the forum :) if a white Hav has cream ears then they are a cream and not a true white.

here is a couple of photos of one of my girls who is a white, minus a couple facial stains.

Zmrzlina as a new born, I circled the one that was her, though she is the only white one in the litter, the others are cream

ya, the ones (like mine) that you are seeing so many of with the "tan" ears were "sables" when they were babies... Havanese often change color and lighten considerably.

As Tillie gets older I am starting to see a pattern... she is WAY more white on her 'odd' years (1 and at almost 3 I see about 1/2 an inch of white growth coming in) and her even years she is more of an apricot. Time will tell if it is always that way. Although she looks "white" she is not. She is a "Red Sable". ha ha

here is a pic of Tillie as a baby.

Very Pretty Girl. I love the Havies-color changes are so much fun. Since mine is older there is not the color change we see in young ones. If anything Paige is getting a little grayer on the top part of her head.

My understanding is that if you get an all white Havanese puppy, they will stay white. If you get a sable they will MOST LIKELY end up mostly white. Any other color... all best are off until they are several years old!:)

We have one member who hasn't posted in a while, but she has a dog named Cicero. As an adult, he looks like a solid silver dog with white trim. She showed us a photo of him as a baby, and he was a black and white parti! But his black parts silvered, and he got so many Belton stripes in his white, that it all blended together to make him look silver. (and gorgeous, BTW)

Gucci has the blonde ears but it isn't as noticeable on her in the pictures as it is in person, honestly, I' wouldn't mind if they were all white because the blonde tends to matt worse than the white (or where the white and tan meet, I guess is prone to mats) She also has a blonde streak on her tail.
I don't think it is standard, I"m sure there are some w/o the color variances

What I do love about having a light colored dog is that I can always see dirt, poop and other things that one might miss on a darker dog. Its easy to catch fleas early, too, so a benefit there for sure.
