I had a furnace repairman come yesterday. Whimsy saw him pull up in his truck and she barked her fool head off at him. I picked her up when he walked in the door , she stopped barking, and he extended his hand slowly and pet her. She seemed fine with that, I put her back down on the floor and she just looked at him.... then he went downstairs and did his work. She totally ignored him, but she sat by the front door and and just stared out at his truck the whole time he was here. I have noticed that whenever a stranger comes into the house it helps to pick her up in my arms while they greet her. Maybe she feels less threatened that way then when shes down on the floor where the stranger looks so big and imposing??? Any thoughts??
Once he left and got back in his truck, she looked out the door and starting barking again..I don't think she liked that truck...who knows LOL

Henry is quite the guard-dog, he barks and really goes after to people.
What I do is leash him and have him on-me at all times. Then if I need to tend to the repair-man/delivery, I put Henry in the kitchen and block him off.
Only if the person is OK with dogs do I let him near to say a Hello.

Henry did nip the washing machine repairman once and I learned my lesson. Thankfully, the guy made no issue out of it.

Fortunately, Isabella barks when they ring the bell or make a noise prior to . . .but once I open the door and tell her to sit . . .she calms down immediately. She keeps a wary eye on them, but as long as I'm calm, she is too. Hopefully Raider will take his cues from her (crossing all fingers and toes) LOK

Both Momo and Ume bark their heads off. Ume will add the extra feature of jumping on the person because, of course, this person is here to pay attention to him. Both of them are pretty annoying in their own way, especially if the person doesn't appreciate it.

I have two anatolians (livestock guard dogs) and my 1/2 hav. My neighbor is a GC, and when I bought my house, I had a hot tub in the backyard, but it was cracked, and then my first dog ripped the wiring out... needless to say, my neighbor knows all my dogs. so when I hired him to demo the hot tub and just put a plain deck in, he did.

3 days they were in the yard, first day, 3 grown men chased Ollie for 45 minutes and couldn't catch him. so they let him sit on the deck. My neighbor said Ollie barked for 6 hours straight. My anatolians were in the house and quiet, lol who's the guard dog now!

My guys think all guests, repair people, or anyone standing up right on two legs, are here to play with them. They do not jump but Yogi will walk on his hind legs with arms up in the air after them (he looks like a teddy bear), after the greeting I put them away either in their crates or in my room until the repair persons are gone. Guests...if thy get up to use the restroom Misty follows the women and waits at the door as if watching that they don't run off with the silver.LOL

Beau HATES UPS and FedEx trucks! He's okay with the drivers, but he sounds like a Rottweiler in attack mode when the UPS/FedEx trucks come down the street!! As for workmen, he either follows them like a puppy in love OR he dances around them like a prize fighter, refusing to let them touch him. No real rhyme or reason. But, it seems like the nicer the repairman, the less likely Beau is to let them play with him.

Lucky duck . . .Isabella doesn't and the UPS guy just throws the box on the porch and doesn't go anywhere near the doorbell. If I'm not near enough to the door to hear the box hit the porch, I usually don't know there's a box until I get the Amazon text telling me my package has been delivered, or I trip over it on my way out LOL

Nina guards me. I am her human. I also pick her up and introuce the new comer to her. then she is usually nuts about them till they leave. I had a friend come that has never had pets and we could not get Nina off my friend's lap. Fortunately my friend was OK with her.

Kodi barks when someone comes to the door, but as soon as I let them in, he knows they are "OK". He's not buddy-buddy with most people, though, just goes off and minds his own business. He has a few "special friends" that he practically turns himself inside out for, but they are people has knows, and has developed a relationship with.

I always feel safe when Whimsy is around. I know she will bark at the door if anything out of the ordinary is going on. I figure if somebody wants to break-in they will change their mind and go to a house where there is no dog barking. No burglar in there right mind is going to want some little dog calling attention to them.
