Has anyone ever heard of a dog having an inflamed back?

Havanese are long backed dogs. Not as much so as Dachshunds or Corgis, but still longer than most. As such, they are more prone to back problems than shorter backed dogs. That's one of the reasons that many vets who treat dogs who do sports suggest that Havanese and other long backed dogs be taught running contacts in agility... The fast stops of other methods are too jarring on the back.

Kodi hasn't had back problems, but has twice pulled muscles in his thigh. I now take him to a veterinary chiropractor every 6 weeks or so, just to make sure everything is in good working order. For a dog that is not working hard in competitive sports, that probably wouldn't be necessary, but certainly, if he has signs of pain I would strongly consider taking him to a vet who has knowledge of chiropractic. They can work wonders!

My son has a dog, that he rescued that someone dumped by our house when he was a puppy. He is 7 yrs old now, never any issues. He started acting weird last night, and today he stayed in his bed, and when taken out, he could barlely walk. He refused to walk up the steps. took him to vet, and she said he has an inflamed back. Didnt do xrays. Gave him a shot, and sent him home with meds.

I'd find a vet chiro. My "regular" vet. just gave me some meds for Kodi and sent me on my way when I took him in, also not even wanting to walk. It wasn't until I talked to someone else and the referred me to the chiro that he started making great progress.
