How is it that some dogs have hair and some have fur?

I understand that all dogs descended from wolves, which have fur. am I to suppose that hair is a recessive traits in dogs?

curious. thx.

My understanding is that hair and fur are technically the same thing. (sort of like differentiating between "frogs" and "toads") The only difference is how long the hair grows before it is shed. For horses, cats and most dogs, the hair is shed and replaced twice a year. (more or less) For Havanese and other drop coated dogs, (and sheep, and Llamas… ;)) the hair grows for longer… up to 3 years I believe for our dogs, and the hair is lost a few pieces at a time, rather than lots at once. So we typically only see what gets caught in the brush, just like when we brush our own hair.
