Giving up a meal...

Okay so I know at ten months Lucky should already have been cut down to two meals a day. But we tried once and it wasn't working and I'm just as happy to feed him when we eat. But, he's become quite disinterested in breakfast. In fact, when he's about ready to eat it, it's almost time for lunch (and I hate leaving wet food out that long). Should I just not feed him until about 11 and drop a meal? Is breakfast usually a meal that's dropped? Had expected lunch thank you for guidance

This is one of those times which I think you should go with your instincts. Some dogs aren't thrilled by breakfast while others throw up if they aren't feed by 6am.

Just try it and see how it goes.

I agree with Pam. As long as the AMOUNT fed is appropriate to maintain healthy body weight, I think the frequency is a matter of choice (what works best) for you and your dog!

You could always give him his breakfast and if he doesn't eat it within a reasonable time, wrap it up and then serve it again at lunch.

Brody is a dog who has never really given up the third meal (he'll be 2 in February). That's not to say he eats 3 meals every day, but some days he does and some days he doesn't and the meal he skips varies as well. I just resigned myself to offering him 3 meals and follow his lead. It's easier for me because Brody is on kibble so I don't have to worry about spoiling issues. I noticed that once the weather got cold here that he was ravenous for all 3 meals again for a while.

Bama is supposed to transition to three times a day eventually. My husband wanted to go ahead and start this week because she doesn't seem as hungry...but then i realized it was probably loss of appetite from the antibiotic she is on. Of course my husband himself usually only eats one meal a day, so he isn't exactly the best example. ;-)

sometimes they just tell you I'm not interested. I agree, if the volume you feed is the same, you can drop to 2 times a day. I have 2 adult dogs that only eat once a day about 13 out of 14 days. I just throw the food away after about 30 minutes.
