Dog walking
Hi all,
I took Doug for his first walk on a lead yesterday and he did so well. We went to my partents house which is about an 800 m walk. He was trotting along his little legs going a mile a minute to keep up with me. He stopped for a couple of sniffs along the way but generally didn't resist at all. Then after visting the family we walked home again which he seemed to do with even more ease.
Just wondering how often you walk your dogs and what distances?

I walk my guys daily for 45 min - 1 hr. That's a brisk walk/hike. We walk off leash 90% of the time, so my guys are moving at a nice clip. They have been hiking since they were pups. They didn't do distance as young pups, but 30 min as wee pups.

Good, he will be getting daily walking now that I know he is ok on the lead and enjoys it and will do a walk a bit longer today and see how he finds it.

Speaking of Australia we haven't met anyone that has ever heard of the Havanese breed (other than the breeders) everyone asks oh what's that a cross with?? So funny!

I started walking mine as soon as i brought her home (at 14 weeks old). At first she could only go 500m or so and would want a rest or to be carried for a short distance and then walk again. By the end of the first month she was easily walking 3-4km. She loves it and it tires her out so she gets into less trouble at home. They have quite a bit of endurance!

I started walking Tino right away--so good to get them used to the leash early so it's never a problem. He sniffs more than he walks but we have a good time. Our previous Hav once did a two-day overnight 18 mile hike with us--we were so impressed with his endurance!

We've had a couple of other Aussies on the forum. One has a cute little chocolate girl, and the other shows his dogs... I seem to remember one is a beautiful red.

That's great. Hubby and I tend to go for walks most evenings so would be good for Doug to come with us and I wouldn't mind taking him for a brisk walk of a morning before I go to work.
Yeah I think I noticed in some other posts that our breeder was actually on here too!
