Newbie here-bringing our puppy home tomorrow!
Hi all,
After deciding to bring a puppy into our home and doing lots of research we decided that a havanese would be a great fit for our family.
We have 2 kids ages 9 and 6....they are excited!
After emailing will several reputable breeders (all that were 4-5 hours away from us) we realized we would probably have to wait until spring for a new litter to be born and ready to be adopted....and then travel to get her.
Then, we received an email from one of the breeders letting us know about someone (also reputable!) right in our city with a puppy ready to adopt.
We went to meet the puppy today and fell in love!
She is such a sweetie!
The puppy is 17 weeks old and has been housetrained to a "potty patch".
We are hoping to get her housebroken to outside asap!
Feel free to give me any and ALL advice for making the puppy's transition to our home as smooth as possible!!
I am sure I will be back here a lot with questions!!!

I couldn't sleep the night before I picked up my puppy. and then I didn't sleep for the next 4 months... but it was fun. congrat!!! post lots of pics for us.

I would keep the potty pad as an option for bad weather days or if you are out for half the day. I wish I had done that with my little girl. I read on the forum that some put the potty pad in the garage. I also know someone who put it in a stall shower for easy clean up.

I would also highly recommend that you keep your potty patch (or other indoor potty option) as you also introduce your pup to pottying outdoors. Most catch on to the outdoor potty thing without any trouble anyway. It is VERY useful to have an indoor potty option for small dogs. (especially in bad weather!!!)
