Pain Meds After Spay?

I gave Ciara pain meds and we did not experience any adverse reaction. I only gave meds for three days because she did not show any signs of pain.

I will say that she scratched at the cone so much in an attempt to get it off that she scratched a thin spot in her coat.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes and advice! Lola is doing SO well, better than I ever expected!! She peed twice outside last night, despite the single digit temperatures. She gobbled up her food this morning, pooped and peed outside, and has even been chewing her bones and stuffed animals!! I also gave her the required dose of Rimadyl and she hasn't had any sort of reaction. The onesie has been a miracle, thank you all for recommending it! I can tell it's going to be hard to keep her quiet for the next 10-14 days but that's a good sign to me! Thanks again everyone, it's such a great help and relief to have such caring forum members!

Hi! She had to have her K9's removed because the adult K9's were growing in and the babies were not falling out. They were painful for her and the doctor didn't want them to get infected. I felt horrible that she'd have to deal with that on top of the surgery and microchip, but her mouth doesn't seem to really bother her, she's even been chewing some of her bones! Lola is also doing well with the Rimadyl, thanks for putting my mind at ease about your boy taking those as well!

The first pain med they gave Gucci didn't work, so I ended up calling the vet for something stronger, this is pretty uncommon though, I had her spayed later than usual, so I think that was a bit tougher for her, either that, or she is a big wimp when it comes to pain.

Most pups do fine with the motrin-like meds they send home, but since you are having some extra stuff done, your dog may need something stronger, It pains me to see her in pain But we only had to use it a few days and then they bounce back pretty quickly, like kids.

I'm so happy to hear that Lola is doing so well, Lauren. My dog went through it less than a month ago, so I remember vividly how scared and anxious I was during that day and the first night, and it would have been a lot worse if he'd had to have teeth pulled! I was so happy and relieved the next day when he seemed fine, and like everyone else said, then the challenge became to keep him quiet. I was very happy to take it on, though, because I knew it meant he was feeling good. Our dogs are little toughies!
