the off leash thing

Ours are both velcro dogs,though Dizzie is a little bolder and runs ahead,and trundles off,but always within eye sight,and they both come straight away when called,Nellie is stuck to my ankles!But they are never allowed off lead any where near a road.We have always let ours off lead from a young age,as they can't run off so fast or far when they are little also they can be even more reliant upon you,but obviously when they first went off lead it was in a safe place,and always plenty of treats when they came quickly to a call.I never chased them if they didn't return immediately,in fact turned the other way,so they would have to come to me to get my attention.When they return to you it is lead on first then treat.
