Hills L/D Food

So the vet here says she wants Max to start on Hills Science Diet L/D dry food in order to help his liver get better quicker and so we can then focus on treating the Haemobartonellosis....

I have heard so many bad things about Hills Science diet but don't know what to do - right now he is on several supplements (all natural, all non toxic) in order to improve the liver and if this food is the way to go then obviously I will give....

Has anyone on here had experience with this food or any other food that is good for liver-weak diets ?

I was going to leave this alone...but...is your vet talking long term or for a short while? I do agree science diet is not a long term food, it can be effective for short term things or end stage illinesses. It also is convenient and works faster then diets they use to recomend. It's just another view and you need to weigh your options realisitically, with your life style.

So...the vet gave me a small sample bag to take home for Max to try - needless to say that didn't work out so well....I put some in his bowl mixed in with some broth and he went over and looked at it and then looked at me as though to say 'seriously you want me to eat this?" and walked away.....so he ended up eating his regular food !

Ask your vet about a milk thistle supplement. I had a 25 yr old cockatiel that had fatty liver disease and that helped him live an extra 4 years. My vet is a believer in it.

My sisters vet an internist specialist recommended the same food for her 14 year old Aussie who became jaundice. She is now on a very low fat diet and is acting like her old self again. Maybe canned food of the same stuff for awhile. They love canned food.
