If you can't make Westminster, then this is the next best thing. You will be able to see lots of Havs. Last year's turnout at the Specialty was wonderful. You can also catch other breeds that you might want to see.

New York Metro Specialties (NYMS) is comprised of about 12 independent, licensed Toy Dog Clubs. NYMS holds a 2 day show at the Hotel Pennsylvania every year on Saturday and Sunday of Westminster weekend. Each dog club is hosting an independent specialty show as if they were in a hotel making a show of only that breed. Independent Specialties are one breed only. The participating clubs in NYMS hold concurrent shows. There are several rings in which different breeds are shown. Each breed winner is Best in Specialty Show. Papillions, Shih Tzu, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Chihuahuas, Miniature Pinschers, Pekingese, Dachshunds are just some of the breeds shown over the two days. At the same location but on Friday, the Progressive Toy Dog Show is held. Many Havanese are usually entered at that prestigious show. The time that the Havanese are in the ring is yet to be determined. You can check Havanese ring time a week before the Progressive Dog Show http://www.infodog.com/clubs/2013060701.HTM. If you are interested in knowing which breeds are shown on Saturday and which breeds on Sunday, consult http://www.infodog.com/panels/ny.htm. Each breed is listed separately because they are separate shows merely held in the same place.
The shows are wonderful to see and you can get close to each ring. Not only that, but the Hotel Pennsylvania lobby is an exciting place to sit because many dog fanciers are arriving to check into the hotel over the course of the weekend. It's fun to see folks with their luggage, dogs, crates and show equipment getting settled in the lobby. It's all free, too! As with most all dog shows, there's an admission fee for spectators.
I don't know if I've spoken to what you're particularly interested in, but if you have more questions, please post!
