My Guard Dog
Brody is pretty reactive to every sound he hears. He does seem to feel that it is his job to be on guard all the time. We have plenty of "arguments" about his barking at the slightest noise, but still he persists. LOL
Anyhow, on Sunday night (late) I started hearing noises like stuff falling over in the cupboard. At first I wasn't sure if it was noises from the apartment above or coming from my own place.
Brody was immediately growling and pacing and would NOT relax.
We went to bed and the noises continued. At this point, my take on it was that maybe I had a mouse in the cupboard and it knocked over containers or the wax paper or something like that (even though up to this point I've seen no signs of a mouse cohabiting with me).
Brody paced back and forth along the edge of the bed nearest the door. He had a constant low growl. When he did lay down he had his head hanging over the edge of the bed and was lightly growling. No matter how much I reassured him, he would not relax. This boy was taking his guarding duty seriously!
It would've been cute if I wasn't so tired!! Ha ha Finally the noises stopped and Brody went to sleep.
The next day I figured out the source of the noise. Somehow my freezer had become unplugged and the sound was it defrosting!!!

The hilarious thing is though, if there were an actual intruder he'd hide behind me! (he'd continue to growl, but from the safety of behind mommy)

What a funny story!! I dont know how you could have gone to sleep. I would have called someone to come over to check out my kitchen !!!!!! I am a big baby when it comes to someone or something in my house!

There used to be a board game, I played back in college, where you read a scenario, and then you choose someone in the group most likely to.... and funny, the scenario was hearing a strange noise in the basement or downstairs, my college friends all voted me as most likely to investigate the sound, WTF? really, so not true... I mean I guess I would, but I would have my trusty 140 lbs anatolian shepherd with me for sure!
little ollie, he'd protect me. he'd run away if the stranger tried to pick him up though, lol.

Bama has become more vocal lately. We are in the midst of moving so that may be part of it. First night in new place she was a noisy girl, but last night she kept quiet until 630ish.
When she was little she didn't care if people were outside. She met the mail carrier as well as the regular fed ex guy. Then she got where she was barking when she heard them...I half wonder if it wasn't so much a guarding thing but a 'hi my friend is outside I want to see them'. She was more vocal with certain of our old neighbors...the ones who gave her extra attention. She would hear our neighbor's girlfriend's dog and bark more then than when the neighbor or his girlfriend were outside alone...and I could never even hear that dog!

EWWWW ok, I think I would rather have an intruder than a SNAKE!

Well, thankfully it was only a defrosted freezer. And even more thankfully it was mostly empty so I didn't lose too much.
