pup is chewing his fur off :

I have a 6 month old Havanses named Wendal. He has been chewing his fur off his arm. I had the vet look at him twice and they could not find nothing out of the ordinary ..other than his missing fur. NO bumps, lumps, red spot, hives or sores. I was thinking maybe a food allergy? He was on Science Diet which he loved. We have now switched him to Eukanuba with the primary ingredient being chicken instead of corn. I was also given "tritop" from the vet. to apply topically. He is groomed every other day and I have occasionally noticed some dry flakes. I was also told to put some flax seed oil or fish oil in his food to help with "dry skin" or "itch". It's been about 2 weeks since we have made these changes. I have seen a little less bitting but, not much. Does anyone have any other suggestions? or ideas? I guess the next option will be a skin scrape at the vet's office.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
It could very well be a food allergy. You might want to switch him to Natures Variety raw and see if that helps. Also, bathing him every other day is way too often. Every two weeks is more on the normal side. His skin has probably really dried out.
I'm sure many forum members will jump in and give you suggestions. Good Luck!!

http://havaneseforum.com/showthread....food+allergies

This is a good thread on allergies and you might want to take a look at it. In the health section there are many good threads about allergies. Most dogs will lick/chew their feet/legs when they have allergies.
LOL, frequent brushing is a good thing.
Many of us are using raw food. I don't use it because of allergies but I think many hav owners use it for exactly that reason. It is sold in the freezers at many pet stores. Natures Variety is a good one as is Stella and Cheweys. Some on this forum make their own. You might want to look into it.
Another idea is to look for a grain free kibble. Evo small bites is a good one.
