Thanks for posting this!
Blitz was adopted a few weeks ago from Havanese Rescue Inc. His family is very dedicated to rescues and helping dogs in need.
Yesterday, I received a call from the former foster family telling me that Blitz had suddenly developed some sudden difficulty. His owner took him to the vets and his blood panels were off the charts. (A few weeks ago, blood panels were normal.) Throughout the day, we learned that Blitz was diagnosed with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. In order to save his life, he is requiring expensive blood transfusions and steroids as well as a few days in the ER.
Yesterday, the decision was made by the family to give Blitz a chance, as he is a fighter. Last night he began his treatments by having a blood transfusion. We were told it would be good news to not hear from the vet during the night. Well, I woke up to no news being good news. I am now happy to report that our first update of the day is that Blitz is holding steady. His fever is gone, his heart rate and respiration are back to normal. They will finish giving him the rest of his transfusion since his blood count was staying steady. Today, they will then begin medication that will keep suppressing his system.
A go-fund me was set up to help with the expenses of this treatment. The costs are estimated to be $5000. In Melissa’s words…”Please help us to reach our goal of $5000 so Blitz an come home to his best buddy Benny and his new family. We appreciate any amount of help you can give from the bottom of our hearts!”
Please do what you can and also share the go fund me link with friends. https://www.gofundme.com/j9ksrugs
