Shedding

I know shedding is normal in dogs but when should one start getting worried about the extent of shedding and how does one determine whether it is the normal kind of shedding and not anything like a health problem?

Most Havanese shed very little, other than what comes out in the comb or brush as you groom them.

I don't know how old your dog is now, but you may notice more hair in the comb or brush while grooming if your dog is starting to blow their coat. I noticed this with Molly. She started when she was about ten months old. It lasted for several months. You will notice a lot of mats forming in the coat on a daily basis too if this is the case.

I have never noticed any shedding with any of my three. There is a lot of hair removed with daily brushing and combing.

I haven't noticed any shedding either, even with brushing or combing. We did, however, go through a severe matting problem, probably the "blowing coat" phase.
