Anyone with advice about struvite crystals?

I heard from the vet today that it is possible Tucker might be starting a UTI, but also that his pH is 8, and there were struvite crystals. I am thinking maybe he had a little stone he was trying to pass and finally did at mom's on Tuesday, because he has acted okay since then.

Anyone have any advice to offer?

My last dog was a Bichon who had crystals in her urine. Her xrays showed a bladder full of stones. They were not the kind that could be dissolved with a special diet and she had to have them surgically removed. It was probably 15 years ago when this happened. Back then I just went along with what the vet said and put her on a prescription diet. The diet did control her urine pH and she never had any further problems with bladder stones forming. I made sure to keep her well hydrated to keep her urine dilute and keep her on a strict diet. I hope Tucker does not have any stones and that you can find a diet you like to keep the crystals under control. My Bichon lived a good, long life and the crystals were just an inconvenience that we had to deal with but were totally manageable.

Thanks for the article, Dave. It is one I found yesterday. Dr. Becker is one site I use a lot.

Tucker gets commercial raw. Right now he's on Primal Raw Duck.

I'm going to add cranberry and Vit. C, and get some pH strips to monitor things.
