Pele' kidney function is elevated.

Ok, so I am so worried. 3 weeks ago, Pele' got tummy sick after staying with my trainer for a long weekend. When I took him to the vet, everything was fine, except his creatine and BUN levels were slightly elevated. The vet wasn't too concerned. He figured it was probably from his stomach being off. But today I took him in for a follow-up, and his levels are still slightly elevated. The Vet says it is hard to say what the reason is. He has put him on antibiotics, in case he has an infection. And we are switching his food to a kidney specific food. It is Hill's prescription, which I don't like, but I am willing to try anything. His current food is Orijen, which is a great food, but very high in protein. So the Vet wondered if the high protein is taxing his kidneys. The next step, if things don't clear up, is an ultra-sound. Pele' is not even 2 years-old yet. So I am very concerned. Does anyone have experience with this?

I think other members have posted about kidney problems on high protein food....sounds like this might be the case for Pele. I hope so because that sure would be an easy fix.

Oh, I am going to have to do a search on that. Thank you so much.
