Kennel cough or dog flu exposure?

My friend who was dog sitting, and staying at my house with her dog, called and said her dog is very sick and coughing. The vet said it was either kennel cough or dog flu, both very contagious. I spoke with the on call vet and they said to keep an eye on Nala's temperature. ( I have never taken it before but I think I will try tonight). She was definitely exposed. The last time she was around the sick dog was saturday evening and it's Thursday evening now. The vet said it could take 7 days to develop symptoms. And I read it could take up to 10 days. She is not supposed to be around other dogs or even have people pet her who could expose it to other dogs.

I read several threads about Dog Flu. I have never had any experience with either of these. I am going to speak with our holistic vet in the morning to see if she has any advice. It's so weird to not allow her to be around people and dogs.

I am really more worried for my friend's 12 year old poodle. He just had some teeth removed and I think he must have picked this up at the vets. Please send him some healing energy. His name is Teddy and he is Nala's dearest pal.

I guess I just have to monitor Nala and hope she doesn't get it. I was sick this week, my husband broke his ankle climbing a mountain in Nepal and I am slammed at work and supposed to be traveling next week. I don't want to have to worry about a sick pup too!!

Hope all goes well with Teddy and keeping fingers crossed Nala doesn't catch it.

So far she seems fine. Tomorrow is 7 days after exposure. She is curled up with my injured husband!

Colby got what I think was probably Kennel Cough (we didnt go to the vet since they said they couldn't really do much unless it got really bad). He was around my parents dogs several times before we realized that he probably had it and their dogs never got it! Hopefully Nala will do the same. Colby's went away on its own after several days also.

I picked up a homeopathic kennel cough remedy from the vet so hopefully that will help. She seems lazy but she always seems pretty mellow!

Teddy is on two different antibiotics and seems okay.
