Tybee ate a wee bit of his Wee Pad... Ok? right?

Tybee chewed up a wee pad today. He has never done this before. He may have ingested some of the blue backing. Is this okay?

I am kinda mad at Petco. I looked at the box and it was shipped from FourPaws to a Braselton GA Petco in 2008! I bought it last week without knowing the age at an Acworth Petco. The box was beat up and dusty, but I thought it was okay. I wonder if there was a scent on it that made him tear it up. It was also quilted - not like the new Wee Pads we have.

Wish I had noticed before I opened box. I only used the one. Is it too much to ask Petco to return/exchange it for a more recent product?

Poor Tybee

Do you have a holder for the pads? I know that many a hav has been able to chew the pads despite the holder, but for Sydney it has worked well. She isn't persistent enough to bother trying - if there isn't an edge readily available, she doesn't chew them. Alternatively, I know a friend that uses the Ugodog so that her dog can't get at the pee pad to chew it up...

I'm sure Tybee isn't the first to do this. As long as you don't notice any unusual behaviour he is probably fine. For what it's worth, the age probably didn't affect anything... pups just like to chew!

Thanks Allison. Sydneys pics are so cute

Tybee seems okay this morning, so hopefully all will be okay as far as his wee pad snack.

I dont have a holder, but it will be a good idea if this becomes a habit. I don't know much about them - but I may soon.

Currently, I just put the pad in a Purina litter box. He has been pretty good about not chewing it. Mostly he gets excited from all the motion and flapping about when I am putting in a new pad. I try to be mellow. That and using the Leave It command has worked well till now. But these days may be numbered.

Thanks for the info on the pads. Maybe I'll get brave and try another when I can watch like a hawk (I need a watchful hawk smilie)

That's why I never used pee pads for Kodi... He would (still will!) eat ANYTHING that looks remotely like paper. Not just tear it up... ingest it.

That said, I doubt a little bit will hurt him. I've seen some absolutely amazing things pass through Kodi. Do your best to keep him from eating things he shouldn't, but he probably will from time to time. I'd just keep a close eye on him. If he seems to feel well and keeps eating and pooping normally, it will probably pass without incident.

I really don't think it has anything to do with the age of the pads though... Lots of puppies chew, and MANY will chew up (and ingest) pee pads. Sydney's mom has given you some good suggestions, but since you already have a litter box, you might want to try switching to either dog litter or wood stove pellets. (I like the latter better for a number of reasons)

Thank you, Thank you for saving me from looking like a fool trying to return the wee pads. I can see the people at Petco rolling their eyes.

Tybee has had to be told "leave it" numerous times today with the newer wee pads.

I really dont know what I would do without this forum

PS - Everything seems to be moving along well digestion-wise.

You will be surprised what these Havs will eat! Dexter loves paper and I could never use the potty pad because he would tear them apart.

Just make sure you see stools! What goes in....has to come out!
