Velcro etc

Gryff has always been MY dog. What I mean by that is that he couldn't really care less about my husband or my son. It's all me. While that is nice and all, it does get problematic.

Usually when I'm not home, Gryff will hang out with my husband and there is no problem. However, lately Gryff is sort of freaking out. When I'm not home, he shakes like somebody put a quarter in him. He is also panting and following Chuck around like he's attached to his ankles.

He does get the shakes every few months or so and he'll have it for a day or so and then it goes away. I took him to the vet about it and I got the "little white dog" diagnosis. It was nothing.

The only thing I can think of that is different right now is that it's hunting season and I've been hearing a lot of gunfire. Gryff doesn't do well with thunder, vacuum cleaners, etc.

Any ideas on what to do about this? I am going away for four days in January and I'd like Gryff to be comfortable without me and I don't want the rest of my family driven nuts by the dog.

Abby is pretty much "my dog", too, and had even been afraid of DH for the first several months. I was pretty nervous when I went to Ohio for ten days to visit family but it turned out to be a good "bonding" experience for the two of them. Of course, I think there were lots of treats involved, too! Food seems to overcome many obstacles!!!

That happened the last time I travelled to Ohio too! He just seems in a real funk. He's following me all over the place right now. Poor dog is getting dizzy!

Ivy, that is so funny! DH & Abby are pals now - especially when it comes to kitchen duty......lol But, he says she will sit and wait near the door for me when I'm gone and even whine occasionally.

My poodles used to do the shaking thing once in a while - usually when they were nervous about something. The gunfire might be the problem. How long does hunting season last? Fortunately, Abby is the most laid back dog we've ever had and she doesn't even pay attention to any outside noises - even other dogs barking! I love this breed!

I suggest MANY MORE PLAYDATES! An exhausted dog is a happy dog? And I know a dog right down the street from you who could be very helpful in this department! Only kidding Ivy. So sorry Gryffy is having a bad period. Come over and let him run around like a lunatic.

Nancy - I told Chuck that he should call you and give you Gryff overnight while I'm gone. That way, he won't even know I'm gone. Seriously, I'm leaving your number with him.

Hi Henry!
