I can’t believe I’m posting a thread about poop! The number of questions dog poop can raise is still surprising to me sometimes!
I posted a week ago right before I took our puppy to the vet. He had diarrhea and was throwing up, but by the time I got to the vet he didn’t have diarrhea anymore. Since it was the weekend and also spring break, there were a couple of days before we heard back and he continued to not have symptoms during this time.
I know this can happen with giardia, which is what he has, and it’s not his first infection. Normally I wouldn’t think much of it, but right before the test came back he was due for his HeartGard and I gave it to him without thinking. Later he had the strangest poop I’ve ever seen. It wasn’t diarrhea, which I read sometimes happens with worming meds. I can’t find any similar description online. It was larger than normal, almost round like a ball, and it was full of uniform small holes. It sort of looked spongey because of all of the holes, so I expected it to be soft, but it wasn’t. The color was normal. If I hadn’t heard about worms before (I’m under the impression that they usually cause diarrhea and different symptoms), I would imagine a dog with worms having poop exactly like that. It looked like many somethings had been burrowing through it. Eck!
Everything has been normal since then, but it’s been bugging me. Something just seems a little off to me, but I don’t have enough experience to know if it’s just because this is unfamiliar territory.
Any insight? Has anyone seen anything like this before? Maybe he just ate something weird that I missed?
