Heartworm Website by State?? Washington State??

I seem to remember that way back someone posted a link that listed whether a particular state had heartworm. Or maybe it just listed the states where it was prevalent.

I live in the Puget Sound area of Washington State and we have never had to worry about heartworm. I believe there was a little bit in the eastern part of our state, but not the west. However, with the climate change, I've heard it is moving into areas that weren't a concern before. So, can anyone direct me to this website I seem to remember? I'll be checking with our vet too.

I was told by our vet that there have been more cases in our region, which is really dry, in some of the microclimates (not sure if thatís the right word) around the lake, so that theory makes a lot of sense to me. I think the danger is that most people here donít use preventatives because there has never been a need. Our vet has been trying to get people to use them or do regular heartworm tests if they live in certain areas.

Thanks Mudpuppymama. The first link seems to be outdated. However the second link has 2019 data.

The first link is from the American Heartworm Society. The second link is from a Mercola Healthy Pets article. I believe the American Heartworm Society updates the map every three years so maybe they will put a new one out there eventually for 2019.

The second link is for cats, could you change it to dogs? I couldn’t see how to do so.

There are drop downs at the top. You need to select Heartworm Canine. I will try posting again here. Looks like same link though. You may have to select it yourself. Maybe it defaults to Feline Heartworm.

I wanted to add that you can also select tick borne diseases and you can click on your state and county for statistics in your state or county.
