allergies?????

Gabby has been chewing at her feet lately. As you all know, she is blowing her coat now too. I have had to cut a few chunks out of her back leg hair from all the knots. I get lots of hair out when I comb. It is getting thin on her back legs. I am wondering if this is from the coat blowing, or if it is something more serious. I dont know if she is biting because of the knots, or the biting is causing a lot of the knots. Her body hair has thinned also, but, would this be because of the coat blowing? I dont see any irritated areas. Her hair on her legs is white, so easy to see. Could it be something in her food that is causing it? She is eating purina puppy chow. I know that isnt the best food, but, confused about that too. I fed my other dog BLUE. Should I try that? Confused???????? I might add to, she has probably been bored the last while, as I have had a lot going on. Dont know if that would do it.

I'd check with the vet. I don't know about other dogs, and some people have mentioned that the hormone change from spaying can have an eefct on the hair coat. But Kodi's coat never thinned noticeably when he was blowing coat. It amazed me when I'd pull gobs of fur out of him on a daily basis, and he'd STILL be as fluffy as when I started.

I remember you mentioned "thinning" before and I wondered. Atticus is blowing coat now and I comb out mats but his coat is as thick as ever. Hope you figure it out!

I just know with my other dog that corn is a allergen, so I don't feed Cassie anything with corn. I am feeding her blue buffalo puppy food. So far so good. My other dog used to always chew on her feet, and it may just be a nervous habit thing? It drove me crazy!

It kinda seems like it is a nervous, something to do when I sit thing. I have noticed that she does it a lot when she is sitting beside me, and I tell her no in a firm voice and she will stop, but, a little later she does it again. It almost seems like she will chew, and hair gets knotted and then she pulls on the knots.

Rosie will do a lot of scratching and chewing just before bath time. In fact that is my cue to give her a bath. The scratching causes mats and that makes her chew on them.
