Maggie's ear infection

I'm feeling like such a bad mom. Maggie had her cherry eye surgery (left eye) on Wednesday, and that night she was scratching at the right side of her cone. Her ear looked inflamed, and when I checked it again in the morning it was full of what looked like earmites......except the color was reddish, and I remembered reading about yeast infections on this forum. The Vet confirmed it and didn't charge us for the office visit, because she said it should have been caught when Maggie went in for her surgery (different Vet did the surgery). Anyway, I had given her a bath the day before surgery and evidently got water in her ear. I had been sooooo careful, and only used a washcloth on her face and ears, but evidently spray got in the ear while rinsing. And yes, the darn cotton balls had fallen out. She got two doses of Epi-Otic and Otomax yesterday, another this morning. Her ear is still inflamed & she's still trying to scratch it. Will check it again at noon, and probably call the Vet again. I can't believe how quickly this developed. Hopefully this will clear up without putting the poor baby through any more trauma. You better believe I am going to be so paranoid next time I give her a bath. Thanks for being here and listening.

I really did not think they would charge, as often my Vet does not charge me when oversites happen, they do charge for the medicine unless it is something they have bought in big bulk. The key is to call before hand if you can, the minute you notice. I am so glad that she is getting better. Don't beat yourself up, many of us have done the same at one time or another. I always wash my guys heads with a wash cloth and if they are real dirty or oiley I use a small cup and avoid the ears. She will be better before you know it.

Poohkey miss you, monkey.
