I wanted to post yesterday but I was just too upset/tired.
On Wednesday, Bear vomited a few times during the day. No food, but bile. I didn't think too much of it because he will do this once in a while. Wednesday evening he needed a butt bath badly because he had diarrhea when he poo'd. So we do that....
We go to bed and he was very restless. On the bed, off the bed, in his crate, under the bed, on the bed....you get the point. Then I finally hear him throwing up again. So I sit up and turn on my light and I see 4 spots where he had thrown up and one spot by my door where he poo'd. POOR BOY! So I get up and he climbs up on my bed and starts throwing up again. So I strip my bed sheets (this is 1am now) and throw them in the washer/dryer. And just sit and watch him. He seemed ok for a while...but then started throwing up again. By 3am he had thrown up a few more times and I was A MESS. So I called an emergency vet hospital that is recommended by Bear's vet and at 3:30am, we were on our way up.
They did blood work (after he threw up there too) and everything seemed good except that he was dehydrating (which is why I decided to take him overnight...that was my fear). So they told me that they were going to admit him and I lost it
but I knew that it was best for him. I cried the whole way home though.....
The good news is that he came home just a little while ago. He was a great patient for them and his electrolyte levels are where they need to be. He hasn't thrown up since the last time when they admitted him or had any other belly trouble. He was diagnosed w/ gastroenteritis and is on a bland/special diet for a while. With stomach meds and a low dose of pepcid.
So between the broken toe nail the other week and now a shaved left leg (for his IV), his front legs look a wreck, but he is healthy and that's all I care about. I wouldn't choose to re-live this 4th of July though!!
