Has anyone tried Blue Powder Ear Wash

While we were away over New Years, Brady stayed at his breeder's house. When I picked him up, I checked his ear since it had been bothering him before he went there. He had been on Animax a week or so before going to stay with her. Anyway, the ear was not looking very good. There were a lot of black spots. His breeder (her name is Diane) helped me to wash his ear out with a solution called Blue Powder Ear Wash. She gave me the recipe and told me to do it once a day for a week. Of course, I didn't and now his hear is bad again. I have been using the Animax again for a few days, but I am wondering if anyone has tried the blue Powder Ear Wash and if you have had any success with it. Brady has never been prone to Ear Infections before. Diane told me it was yeast in his ear and she swears by this solution. It has Isopropyl Alchohol (or witch hazel), gentian violet solution and Boric acid powder.

Leeann, I would love to find out if anyone here has any feedback on it. I have searched online and a lot of breeders seem to use it. If you do a search, you can find the directions to make it. They also sell it made already. I had to have my pharmacy order the boric acid and the gentian violet. It should be in tomorrow afternoon. Also, a have seen a few recipes which switch the alcohol to witch hazel. They say the witch hazel is gentler.

Here is a link to one of the recipes. http://www.k911.biz/Petsafety/EarInfection.htm

I also found a lot of info by searching for gentian violet ear wash.

My Augie just had to go to vet for ear infection. The vet said this is common in Havanese. I have not seen a whole lot about ear infections on the forum. I hope since Augie is only 6 months old, this is not a sign that he will have these very often. They told me to keep his ears plucked and dry. It is hard to give them a bath without getting some water in the ears. I need to put cotton in them from now on. I am going to try this wash after he finishes all his medication. Thanks Karen
