need advise please

I have both a male and female here with all their part's. Since I want to train both for show they need them...:-) Anyway my Titan is in love with Katie and want's to keep trying to mate. He is 8 month's old and she is now one year old. How can you prevent them from mating? I live alone and they have the run of the house and yard 24/7. I can't even tell you if she has had her first season yet since she is always cleaning herself and I have found no spot's around the house. He has been nicked named Mr Humpy by my grandkids. I have looked at those britches for females but they won't work with her going out to potty during the day while I am at work. And they scream if I seperate them with gates. Neighbor's may not like that much for eight hours while I am away.

24/7 you will not prevent breeding. You should know when Katie comes into season. She will swell in her vulva area and will have a red discharge. You have between 6 to 10 days before she will accept a male. Most females will only accept a male 4 or 5 days of their season, but to be on the safe side, I always kept my males and females in different areas when the girls were in season. Titan will drive himself and Katie crazy. I would get them used to crates you will need to separate them when she comes in.

Titan is just being a male puppy.

Sandi is so right. There will be no way for you to prevent pregnancy if you keep them together that much, even with britches.

Katie is way too young to be bred too (ethically), but she will be able to get pregnant, so you need to find a way to keep them separate. If you have a lot of difficulty doing so, one other option is to let Titan stay with a friend or maybe even your breeder's house for a couple of weeks until she is done with her cycle. However, I think it is a good idea that you consider some separate areas of your home if you tend to keep two intact dogs of different genders.

That might work if Katie was only fertile for a few hours a day.

For now when I am home and Titan start's his thing I squirt him with a water bottle. It work's to distract him then he goes on to play with something else. While I am away I have started using a belly band on him. It would help to know around what age female's start their season's. However with what I have read it is hard to pinpoint a certain age. Mostly I think Titan is pulling the alpha thing on her since she loves to knock him over while they are playing. She is larger then him but he seem's stronger then her.

She can come into season as early as six months old and as late as two years old. I have a girl that didn't have her first heat cycle until she was more than a year old, but her littermate had her first cycle at six months old.

If you keep them together, they can still mate even with a belly band on him and britches on her. Don't feel secure with either of those items.

Judy the water spray might work while he is just trying things out, but not once she comes into season that will be a waste of time. You will have to separate them. No training, no short cuts will keep Katie from getting bred.

I do not have this problem as I have 2 males but I do remember a few years ago that I had the cutest little cat and she came into season very early - 6 months and I had a male cat .. Long story short we ended up with 5 kittens .. It was very hard for her as she was so small and young .. She was a great Mom and her kittens were lovely.. I remember I asked at the time of adoption if this was a problem or could I wait to neuter her they said It would not happen before she was 9 months to a year .. Wrong !! I only had her a month and she was pregnant .. Live and learn ..
I never made that mistake again .
I agree with Kimberly you need to physically seperate this dogs .. It would be best if you could send your fella away on vacation for a week or two .. to a friend or a breeder .. Get him out of Dodge and away from temptation .
It is very stressfu once your dog goes into heat and it does not sound like you have the time to focus on the issue 24 hours a day ..
I know Asta's sister went into heat very early as well . Her owners had her neutered soon after .. Her mommy said I never want to go through that again..
