I can Feel Posh's Microchip

After Posh was microchipped (back in November at the same time she was spayed) I noticed a small bump on the side of her neck.

The bump is still here today, and I am assuming this is the microchip?

Is this normal?

It doesn't seem to bother her at all. Not a sore spot.

My brother commented, "Wow. She's got a big mat here."

I told him it was from her microchip.

He said, "You couldn't feel Jessies (his yorkie)."

Should I be concerned?

Sometimes you can feel them. If you aren't sure, you can probably just stop by your veterinarian's office and ask them to scan the spot to make sure that is what you are feeling. If so, no worries.

I'm guessing that Posh doesn't have much fat there.

I wouldn't be concerned for her safety, she will be fine. My vet checks the placement of them every year at the checkup to make sure it can be easily found if tried to scan. It if slips to far out of place, the scanner may not read it or if a rescue or society gets hand of her, they may not scan the right area if it has slipped.

Call the vet of course, as all of us would. They will let you know if it needs attention or not. It may be as quick as a visit to the lobby of the vet office to see if they can scan the chip.

They can fix it if they have to.

Thanks Kimberly. That makes me feel much better. Nope she doesn't have much fat...

We measured her height tonight at agility class, just for fun, and she measured 9 1/2 inches at the withers.

Oh my breeder would be kicking herself.

Posh was kept by my breeder for her show/breeding potential. We weren't sure if she would make it past that 8.5 inches...

I feel bad. But not too bad, as I am so happy I can have this little beauty to myself. What a little lover.

I won't rub it in my breeder's face, that's for sure. She did a great job with Miss Posh!

Awwww, well congratulations on getting your girl. Sometimes we all kick ourselves for placing a dog that we weren't quite sure about. Heck, I would think that most every breeder has a little remorse, but as long as the dog is well-loved, as I know Posh is, I'm sure she's grateful for the match!
