constant bladder infections

My friend's Lhasapoo puppy has been having a real problem. She has constant bladder infections. The vet is saying that they think it has to do with the area where the umbilical cord was attached. They put the dog on antibiotics and it goes away, then it comes back. They may have to have surgery to remove some little stump of cord where the infection keeps developing.

There is a name for this, but I don't remember what she said it was. It sounds like Urkel. Does anybody know anything about it?

I've never heard of this but my last dog had constant bladder infections because her bladder wasn't the proper shape - it was flat on the bottom. As long as we made sure she cleared her bladder completely (lots of walks, peeing on every darn tree, the infections stopped. Don't know if this would help in this case or not.

Have stones and crystals been ruled out? We had a complicated problem with infections related to urine PH with our Bichon Frise.

Ivy,

My female standard poodle is prone to UTI and antibiotics help, but she will get them again. I found a product that helps support her urinary trackt health and as long as I give her the supplement with her food, she doesn't get infections (knock on wood). It is not a cure for a UTI, but just a support when she is healthy. Here's the link.

Have the vets sent out a culture to rule out bladder stones?
