Do you take your Hav to the vet yearly or more often?

Just wondering the frequency in which you take your Hav's to the vet. Also a question about dental care, I try to brush Obi's teeth often, but there seems to be some plaque build-up on his back teeth... how often should he get scaling from the vet?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

annual exam

yeah we take Molly once a year. I think that is pretty much standard. Keep an eye on the tartar and if the vet says it should be removed I would get it done. The only thing is that they have to be put under to get it done. We just had Molly in last week and with all her vaccines , Rabies this year etc. it was $245.00 Now they are recommending year round heartworm and flea protection instead of just 6 months. Here we have to do rabies every second year.

A friend of mine is a dental assistant and cleans the back teeth for me but I am also thinking of having them done by the dentist but have concerns about putting her under. Is it dangerous?

Hugs and have a Hava day!

We have been to the vets more for challenges

Riki has an ear infection about once a year. Daisy has had some challenges with itching and had a blocked anal duct.

I clean their teeth daily with BrushAway Teeth cleaning gel by www.petzlife.com Mine haven't had to have a teeth cleaning since using this product.
Putting a dog under is always potentially dangerous, and expensive.

I put my own flea treatment on the dogs as well as groom their nails. Daisy had to go to the vet on an emergency basis as I put some tea tree oil on an itchy spot. She went limp. Tea Tree Oil causes paralysis in some dogs and is potentially fatal...so beware!

Riki once ate stuffing out of a toy pillow. That was an expensive vet bill. I didn't know why he was pooping black! So I guess you could say we go more than once a year!

Once a year for titer, blood panel, and physical exam- more if she decides to get foxtails in her ears (ugh!)

My girls get a yearly check-up and additional visits if anything pops up during the year like an ear infection. McKenna is four and Sedona is three and so far, no need for a dental cleaning according to the vet but I would imagine it's coming because I'm not that good at cleaning their teeth.

Sissy is 3 yrs. 5 months and she goes once a year and in between. I would say I take her about 4/5 times a year. She has already been twice this year. Ear infections, allergies, etc. Here is Oklahoma we have a lot of pollen, etc.
