Nervous bowel?

Has anyone heard of the term 'nervous bowel'? My vet has used this term for my lab, who gets so excited about going out for a walk that he poops numerous times during the walk -- each successive poop is softer and softer, until it is basically a cow pattie.

Now I am worried this may be the case for my Casey. I took her for a walk at our local Canada Day celebrations (alot of people and noise -bagpipes) and she stopped for a poop...first a normal nugget, then plop, plop....a little softer and softer until a quarter sized cow pattie consistency (sorry this is so graphic).

Has anyone else experienced this?

Could the food they're getting be playing any role? I've never had that particular problem but I'm sure someone here has.

While Roxie had her broken leg and was mostly confined to the house she took to "pooping" whenever we went to the vet even if she'd already done her business at home right before leaving. After her cast came off and we started getting out and about she kept pooping where ever and whenever we went! It seemed almost uncontrollable for her... like a stress response. And it was sometimes like you said.... starts off normal, goes downhill the more she pooped!

So, I started taking her lots and lots of places and on lots and lots of walks around the neighborhood... and when she goes I just clean it up, ignore it (no praise, no scolding, no emotion at all... unlike when she goes out TO POTTY). When we first get somewhere I try to walk her around the car a bit and see if she'll poop there. I am finding that it is getting better a bit now... we went to the groomers today and she didn't poop when we walked in... Yay!! (The things that excite a hav-mommy, huh?)

I am a very inexperienced doggie mom so I don't know if this is similar to what you are going through... just thought I'd share my experience with you so maybe there will be something there to help.
