Question Expressing Glands - delay?

Little Lola appears to need to have her glands expressed. Last night she got very lethargic and has basically been licking her vulva area nearly non-stop for the past 12 hours. She scooted around a bit. Today she is antsy. I am pretty sure it is glands. However, I don't know if I can get her an appt with a groomer or vet today to have them expressed.

Is there any danger to Lola in putting up with this discomfort for another day? I believe there is danger to my house that they may express themselves, so I will keep her contained in the kitchen.

Poor baby.

Not that I'm aware of Anne - she'll be uncomfortable and not likely to express them herself unless she gets lucky with a good poop. Maybe add a little extra fiber and see if that will move things along?

How is Lola doing?
I wouldn't think it is her anal glands as they are in a 'different place'.. nearer the hiney. Is it possible she is coming into heat? Is she spayed?
I had my heart dog (sheltie) years ago who had impacted anal glands. One day she had problems going #2, I took a look, she was hugely swollen! Took her to vet immediately and she had to have surgery. Thankfully all turned out well, although she was in discomfort for days from the surgery.

I hope Lola is ok now.. update please?

Thanks for asking Shada - turns out Lola's glands were only half full, but the trouble was she had a foxtail in her vagina! It was horrible for her. The vet sedated her to inspect and remove it. She is still sore and a bit out of sorts, but is thankfully happy to be free of pain and is quite playful today. I am going to have to curtail her walks on the park trails as the foxtails are everywhere and are getting in her hair. And she is blowing coat, so her mats are impossible to keep up with. I think I may have to shave her, which will at least keep the foxtails from getting so engtangled. It's always something!

Oh my goodness, that poor thing! Glad you figured out the cause for her discomfort. Ugh, I'm shuddering at the thought.

Ouch!

Those darned foxtails! The major reason we don't hike even with short coats.

Bless her heart! And yours! Whew!

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!
